Forecast Predicts Hybrid, Electric Truck Sales Will Nearly Double in 2012 By Genevieve Conti, Assistant Editor
A forecast from Pike Research says that sales of hybrid and electric medium- and heavy-duty trucks will nearly double in 2012, but one industry expert thinks some of the numbers might be overly optimistic.
Pike believes the global market for hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrid electrics vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) will grow at 92% in 2012, with total sales surpassing 19,000.
In the U.S. this year, it predicts that 3,250 medium- and heavy-duty HEV trucks be sold, 790 BEV trucks will be sold and about 500 PHEV trucks will be sold.

Mexican Trucking..Doesn't Matter As Long As It's Not "My" Job
I have mentioned the issues time and time again. Why are we funding Mexican trucking companies to come take our jobs and drive wages down even further. I have said it. You have heard it. But I read something that kind of infuriated me. Talking about the reasons why we should end the ban on Mexican trucking, an expert from a prominent financial research institution said that the current system adds “cost” to the economy. The analyst went on to say that the costs being trimmed by allowing Mexican trucks in the United States is somewhere between 3% to 5%.
That is true and I am glad you have found the problem of what is wrong with our economy. It amazes me how fast economists are quick to slash American jobs when lobbying efforts are not there to protect them. I have just one question? If the financial research institute found that they could be more efficient without you, would you recommend they chop your job? Maybe they could be 3% to 5% more efficient without you. What if there is not as much grant money to pay salaries next year. The laws of capitalism require that some of the variable costs be reduced. You do not have to answer my question. There is only one answer to that question.

By TruckingInfo StaffA proposal to require stability control systems on truck tractors moved a step closer to publication this week when it was sent over to the White House Office of Management and Budget for final vetting.
The proposal will specify the details of a technology standard that that a growing number of fleets already have adopted voluntarily because they see safety benefits.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not said how it intends to handle the distinction between the two types of stability systems on the market, Roll Stability Control and Electronic Stability Control. But it has made clear that the proposal will cover only tractors, which according to experts indicates there is not likely to be a retrofit requirement.
There is ample safety justification for the proposal, the agency has said. Rollover and loss-of-control crashes are responsible for 304 deaths and 2,738 injuries a year, and stability control systems are effective in up to 56% of single-vehicle tractor trailer rollover crashes, and up to 14% in crashes from skidding. From this, the agency estimates that the systems will save as many as 66 lives a year and prevent almost 1,000 injuries.
